Problem 1.2 Targeting an audience

a) 1 yes, 60/100 = 6/10
2 yes, 4:6 = 40/100 to 60/100
3 yes, 60 - 40 = 20
4 yes, 6:4 = 3:2
5 yes, 4 x 1.5 = 6
6.yes, the percentage is accurate
7 ys 3/5 = 60/100 (You multiply by it 20)

b) I would the percentage statement because in ads they use visual objects to sell their product so, if you use a percentage than you can easily visualise it and you can use a pie graph as one of your visuals for your adds.
c) I would use the first statement because its quick and easy to know and because there are not many digits to remember, 6 is a one digit number and 10 is basically a stop and a starting point for counting. 6/10 = 60/100 which is easily understandable.

1. People who perfer Music outnumbers people who watch T.V by a ratio of 1:3. 75% perfer Music over T.V and only 1/4 of the students like to watch T.V in the evening.
2. The data will be different because in our data we are using 16 people and The Neilson school is dealing with a 100 people.
3. I would use to manipulate my class was by mentioning 75% of students prefer Music to TV. Because people like to visualize a lot and a percentage can give a mental image that how many students like one thing than the other.

Difference between ratio and fraction-
Ratio is- a comparison of two quantities
Fraction is- a number with a dinominator and a numerator ex. 1/2.

3.1- Comparing by using ratios

a. Which recipe will make the juice the most orangy ?
I think that mix D (3 cups concentrate and 5 cups cold water) would be the most orangy because it has the most reasonable amount of water in it to make it not to watery. It has 3 cups of orange concentrate then 5 cups of water that is 3/5 of it being concentrate and 2/5 of it being water. That makes it the most orangy.

b. Which recipe would make the juice the most watery?
I think that the most watery would be mix B (1 cup concentrate and 4 cups water) because it has the least concentrate and has alot of water. 1/4 of it is only concentrate that then means that 3/4 of it is water that is more that half of it that is why i think it is more watery.

c. How much concentrate and how much water is needed to make juice for 240 campers?
I think that for each juice to make it not to watery or to orangy that you should put half concentrate and half water that way it is equal. So for each camper to fill there water bottle half of it concentarte and half water. We would need 120 cups of water and 120 cups of concentrate.

1. Well I used it by saying that there is a difference between 1/4 and 3/4 and saying that 3/4 is the amount of the water.

Notes: 1. In this problem, we are going to look at the number of people that like to go Biking, Camping, Exercise Walking, Fishing and Swimming at least twice a year out of the 10,000 households surveyed and then compare the numbers by using the data provided.

2. Here’s the data table of students in our math class that go Biking, Camping, Exercise Walking and so on at least twice a year plus five other sports that students like to do the most out of the 8 girls and 7 boys.

Problem: A. The numbers in the columns don’t add to the given totals because males and females voted more than once because they have more than one talent. For example, one male goes biking and camping at least twice a year.

B. Statement 1: In comparing males that go bicycle riding to and females that go bicycle riding to total in group, the percentage of males that go bicycle riding to total in group is 2.25% more than that of females that go bicycle riding to total in group. Statement 2: In comparing females that go swimming and males that go swimming to total in group, the females outnumbered the males by a percent of 3. Statement 3: In comparing females that go exercise walking to males that go exercise walking to total in group, the females outnumbered the males by 17.7%. I found the percents by dividing the smaller number of the number of males and females that participated in a certain activity to total in group # and then subtracted the bigger percent by the smaller percent.

C. Statement 1: In comparing people that go swimming aged 12-17 to people that go swimming aged 55-64 to total in group, 38% more people aged 12-17 go swimming to people aged 55-64 that go swimming. Statement 2: In comparing people aged 55-64 that go exercise walking to people aged 12-17 that go exercise walking to total in group, the adults outnumbered the teens by 24%. Statement 3: In comparing people aged 12-17 that go bicycle riding to people aged 55-64 that go bicycle riding to total in group, the teens outnumbered the adults by 31.50%.

D. Statement 1: In comparing females that go swimming to males that go swimming, the females outnumbered the males by 5,927,000. Statement 2: In comparing males that go fishing to females that go fishing, about 2.04 times more males go fishing than females. Statement 3: The total females in the group outnumbered total males in the group by a ratio of 59,277,500 to 55,925,500.

Problem 3.2: Helping the coook

How many cans of tomatoes would you advise the cook to buy to make spagetti for 240 campers?

A 240/5= 48 or 240/6= 40; I suggest you take the one where you get the most sauce which will be 240 divided by 5 = 48 cans of sauce.

B How much of these cans of tomatoes will cost all together?
We know that $4.00 gives you 5 cans of sauce and we also know that we would need to 48 cans of sauce for the 240 campers. So $4.00 x 48 cans = $192. $192 will be the cost of all cans altogether.

Sharing Pizza 3.3

A. If the pizza at a table are shared equally by everyone at the table, will a person sitting at a small table get the same amount of pizz as a person sitting at a large table? explaiin your reasoning.
prople from large table would get more pizzas because 3 divided by 8(small table) and 4 divided by 10(large table) if you divide the large table gives you more.
B.The ratio of large tables to small tables in the dining room is 8 to 5. There are exactly emough seats for the 240 campers. How many tables of each kind are there?
It'll be 16 large tables and 10 small tables.

1. How were ratios helpful thinking about the problem?
It tell us how many pizzas for each person.

problem 5.4: comparing the Dakotas

a. south dakota has a greater population desity thaen north dakota which is a ratio of 9.499 for south dakota and 9.2471 for north dakota

b. i think that about 9000 people have to leave south dakota and go to north dakota to make the states have the same population density but i dont really know why but my guess is because if u divide south dakotas population density from north dakotas population density and you get .9 and since the populations of the states are in ten of thousand times that by ten thousandand u get 9000

Dinosaurs are 90 times heavier than a large human.
Height:
2m human height, x 3 equals 6m Rex height.
T-Rexes are 3 times taller than a large human.
Length of Skulls:
20cm of human skull length x 5 equals 1m Rex skull lengths.
T-Rex skulls are 5 times longer than human skulls.
Length of Incisors:
1cm of human incisor length x 15 equals 15cm Rex incisor length.
T-Rex teeth are 15 times larger than human’s teeth.

A paragraph for a Young Child

You know that millions of years dinosaurs roamed the earth, right? Well there was one dinosaur, the T-Rex that was a really big and mean dinosaur. He was a really tall guy, almost as tall as a two-story house, which is 6meters tall. He is 3 times as tall as a really tall adult; so 3 adults on top of each other will be about as tall as a T-Rex. He was really heavy as well; so 90 adults would weigh as much as him. All of you together couldn’t lift him if you tried. I said he was mean earlier, and when I said that I meant it. He had HUGE teeth, teeth that were about as long as my hand! Imagine those teeth bared in front of you, just waiting to snap shut. Thank goodness that they are all gone now, so that they cant hurt any of us now.
